Author: MATTHEW KRIEGER
THE JERUSALEM POST , Sep 20, 2007

Motorola Israel Ltd. is moving most of its offices, including those of subsidiary MIRS Communications Ltd., to Airport City, near Ben-Gurion Airport, the wireless communications giant announced this week. Airport City Ltd. will construct a 48,000-square meter complex, plus parking and commercial space, for Motorola Israel over the next three years. Motorola will occupy 38,000 sq. m. of the new complex and MIRS will occupy 10,000 sq.m., under leases for 24 years, 11 months, with an exit option 10 ten years. Rent will total NIS 33.2 million a year.

Motorola in Israel has been headquartered on Kremenetski Street in Tel Aviv since it was founded in 1964. The company has an option to require Airport City to buy this property.

Another Israeli wireless applications company, Petah Tikva-based Nexperience, also had a big week, with the announcement that it has raised $2.9m. from Vertex Venture Capital. The funds will be used to accelerate the Nexperience market activity and to address the very important mobile media and application segment. Carmel Ventures invested $3.75m. in Nexperience, following a successful pre-seed program. Nexperience is developing a testing and management solution that automates mobile handset end-user activities and validates the user experience on actual handsets. The company`s platform is aimed at reducing the time and complexity involved in the roll out and adoption of mobile services.

Not to be left out of all the wireless action, the Communications Ministry announced this week that it has granted a permit to Petah Tikva based-012 Smile.Communications Ltd. (the fully owned subsidiary of Internet Gold, to make the city of Sderot more "wire-free." 012 will provide wireless technology to Sderot-area schools, day-care centers and approximately 120 "test" families with WiMAX technology for a period of a year, with the hope of increasing the service to more Kassam-weary citizens pending the results of the trial year.

The new WiMAX network, which will be provided by the Tel Aviv-based wireless company Alvarion, will transform the specific area into a "hot spot" with free of charge, "always-on" Internet access and state-of-the-art communications services, making it one of the country`s - and the world`s - most technologically advanced regions. WiMAX is an emerging technology designed for the wireless, high-speed delivery of broadband Internet access and related services in areas with diameters of up to ten kilometers, such as campuses or municipalities. The current license granted to 012 is slated to run out in March 2008.

In separate news, Internet Gold reported this week that it is considering filing registration statements with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for initial public offerings of the ordinary shares of either or both of its two wholly-owned subsidiaries, 012 Smile.Communications and Smile.Media Ltd.

Moving over to "wired" technology, Tafnit-Tech, the computer department of the Open University, and Nortel-Israel, announced on Thursday that they will offer courses this semester focusing on VOIP, (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology. The courses, which will be supervised and prepared by Nortel employees, will also include the option of receiving professional certification from Nortel as a trained Voice Over IP technician. The course will be 160 academic hours and will conform to all international communications standards.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange`s Tel-Tech 70 index will introduce a new member later this month after Arotech Corporation, a provider of quality defense and security products for the military, law enforcement and security markets, announced this week that effective September 30, 2007 its shares will be included on the Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange`s Tel-Tech index of technology stocks. Launched in 2000, the Tel-Tech is the TASE`s technology stock index. It consists of over 70 hi-tech companies in the electronics and computers, R&D in life sciences, biotechnology and agro-technology sub-sectors, as well as venture capital funds and other investment companies that derive most of their value or revenues from these sectors.

Arotech, which has an R&D facility in Lod, is a leading provider of quality defense and security products for the military, law enforcement and homeland security markets. It provides multimedia interactive simulators/trainers, lightweight armoring and advanced zinc-air and lithium batteries and chargers.

On the employment front, Rosh Ha`ayin-based Redmatch recently celebrated the introduction of its job-matching technology into the Hong Kong market, further establishing itself as a global leader in the job-matching technology sector. Redmatch`s technology eliminates the "Goldilocks syndrome," where recruiters and job seekers need to keep trying different avenues before they find the one that is "just right." When a job candidate and employer "meet" on-line via the Redmatch Recruiter system, they are both already qualified as being what the other is looking for, thereby freeing up time for recruiters to focus on adding value to the recruitment process, and creates a much more enjoyable job-hunting process for the candidate.
