Dec 7, 2010
CARTES & IDENTIFICATION 2010, PARIS, France, December 7, 2010 – INSIDE Secure, a leader in semiconductor solutions for secure transactions and digital identity, has again received a prestigious SESAMES Innovation Award in the software category for its commercial-grade, open source Open NFC™ protocol stack. Offering a complete NFC middleware solution, INSIDE’s Open NFC software was awarded this widely recognized seal of approval by a panel of experts because it represents a genuine breakthrough that brings significant benefits to OEMs and ODMs creating NFC mobile phones, embedded products and other devices. “Since its release, Open NFC has been recognized as the de facto open solution for NFC enablement on mobile devices, and it reflects our ongoing commitment to open platforms in the mobile industry and our desire to provide OEMs and ODMs with greater impetus to implement NFC solutions across a broad range of products,” said Rémy de Tonnac, CEO of INSIDE Secure. “We thank the panel of judges for honoring us with this award and for recognizing the significant industry changes our Open NFC solution has sparked.” Open NFC has quickly become recognized as the cost-effective, open-standards NFC middleware solution for mobile phones, embedded products and other devices. It has received significant industry support from a broad array of participants in the NFC ecosystem. Originally developed for INSIDE’s third-generation MicroReadŽ NFC controller, the Open NFC protocol stack brings proven, high quality, well-documented NFC software into the open source arena, and offers a number of benefits to handset manufacturers, developers and carriers. Open NFC supports several levels of functionality, from low-level RF control to high-level NFC Forum tag handling, peer-to-peer communications as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing, interactions with single-wire protocol SIMs and other secure elements and compatibility with smart cards and RFID tags based on Felica, Mifare and ISO 14443 standards. By providing a consistent API across all NFC hardware, the open-source NFC Open protocol stack improves the interoperability of all NFC devices. Open NFC is available as a free and open source edition under the Apache™ License, Version 2.0 for WinCE 6.0 (compatible with Windows™ Mobile 7), Linux 2.6 and Android™ platforms.
